Dynaxiom 1721. There can be a bridge and a tunnel, but never both that lead to the same place. Bridges connote a brighter future based on the freedom to cross them, but tunnels, since underground, represent a surreptitious escape from places that close or even destroy bridges. In a stressed civilization you'd find more tunnels and walls rather than bridges.
