Some November
On November 1, 1941, the iconic photograph Moonrise, Hernandez was taken by Ansel Adams from the shoulder of a highway in New Mexico. 50 years later in November 1991, I wrote in my diary that, following the fall of the wall in 1989, “We may very well be in the grip of an economic depression which may last for some time. This time we might not have the luxury of a World War to bring us out of it.” Ansel Adams' photograph was taken about a month before the attack on Pearl Harbor. On November 1, 2020 I wrote “2020 is certainly the polar opposite of 1992 as it affects the life of someone in their 30s. For someone born in 1942, the Clinton presidency might be viewed as a complete travesty. Now imagine you are Ansel Adams, at the roadside taking a photograph, and someone born the following year would at some point become 30 years old, and that there would be a president in office at that point who would be responding to both the past and future, whatever they became. History is a matter of putting yourself in someone's shoes.
